Saucony is a well respected shoe company with their trademark performance, fit, and feel. The reason they are able to engineer performance for the customer is with their focus on the activity itself. They study the mechanics of high performing athletes from a wide variety of activities, looking at how the body handles the different movements. This has paved the way for some innovative concepts leading to such technologies as Saucony’s sole-based stability and a cushioning system.
The Saucony Peregrine 8 ICE+ sneaker is built with a water-resistant synthetic and mesh that strengthens, adding additional protection and warmth. The rubber outsoles are made with Vibram’s advanced technology, ARCTIC GRIP. This allows for maximum traction on all the wintry surfaces to elevate the risk of slipping for those who don’t stop running because of a little (or a lot of) ice or snow. This proprietary technology has runners turning the weather from an excuse to a new adventure.
Additionally, the runner will not have to worry about loss of pace or poor performance when running in these conditions. The technology continues throughout the sole with a PWRFOAM midsole and an EVERUN topsole. Both soles work together to stabilize the ball of the foot. This means that the runner can still push through the elevation changes given good or bad weather conditions.
Surface Conditions: These soles are coined as being the next best thing to having studded running shoes. The sole is made soft so that it performs well on ice and snow, alike. With that said, this is simply a shoe to have in your inventory for these seasons and not one to necessarily use for dry conditions. The soft sole for icy conditions also means that it will likely wear out quicker with everyday road, trail, track, or treadmill running.
The lack of traction explained in customer reviews all seem to stem from those finding limited traction on ice and packed snow, versus a fresh coat of snow on the ground. Performance was stated to be greater under the later condition, but limited to road running reviews only and not on trails.
Synthetic Mesh: The water-resistant fabric adds some protection from the slushy mixes of snow, water, and dirt on the ground. Although there is added warm, some customers still feel that they could be warmer. I believe this is a personal preference and can be customized with the use of warmer socks, as not all runners will need the extra warmth.

Given the positive reviews on traction and ability to run (or walk) on many different wintry surfaces, these shoes are rated a 9 of 10 for performance during recommended use. Some runners have claimed that the traction is not there, but with the many different ways that people carry themselves on their feet, these should be rare comments.
